Zhongli

In the world of Genshin Impact, the characters Zhongli and Childe are undoubtedly in the spotlight. They each have distinct styles in combat, and their backgrounds are filled with complexity along with unique personalities. Today, let’s discuss these two incredibly popular characters and see which one everyone prefers.

Character Background

1. Zhongli

Zhongli, as one of the ancient Seven Gods, has witnessed the passage of time like no other. When the flames of the Archon War had just extinguished, the last seven Archons ascended to their thrones, marking the end of the era of the Archon War. Although they were all different in character and separated by vast distances, they shared the sacred duty of guiding humanity. As time passed, the Seven Gods have changed many times. Today, of the original Seven Gods, only two remain: the Geo Archon and the free-spirited Anemo Archon. The world continues to change, and everything he once knew is gradually fading away. Among the seven who once gathered at the banquet, five have already passed on.

2. Tartaglia

Tartaglia, the youngest Harbinger of the Fatui, holds the eleventh seat in the diplomatic delegation to Liyue, known by the codename “Childe.” He is responsible for diplomacy with Liyue and is a combat enthusiast, loyal to his physical sensations, with a reputation for remarkable achievements in battle.

Originating from a peaceful town in Snezhnaya, Tartaglia retains a youthful appearance but possesses a body honed to perfection as a warrior. Despite being part of the top echelon of the Fatui as an “Executive,” he seems to struggle to connect with his colleagues, as he is the purest warrior among them, making him feel out of place in this world full of intrigue.

Appearance and Charisma

Zhongli’s design is exceptionally unique, featuring long black hair and golden eyes. This color scheme not only highlights his supreme status as the Geo Archon but also embodies the essence of classical Chinese culture. While his attire has been modernized, it still retains the colors of ancient emperors, such as the black and yellow, symbolizing imperial authority and nobility. Moreover, Zhongli’s prototype showcased during the Rite of Descension exudes an imposing presence; for reference, the Rex Lapis plush captures his half-dragon, half- qilin form very faithfully. His gaze reveals both authority and depth, leaving a profound impression on players with its complexity.

Zhongli’s personality is equally captivating. As the ruler of Liyue, he embodies steadiness and reliability, aligning with the expectations players have for a leader. His voice is deep and resonant, complemented by his ultimate skill’s line, “The world moves with great changes,” evoking a sense of having experienced the myriad phenomena of life. Additionally, Zhongli not only possesses a Confucian sense of responsibility but also integrates Daoist transcendence and Buddhist detachment. This multifaceted cultural background enriches his character, making him more nuanced and three-dimensional.

Tartaglia has a slender figure and wears gray clothing, with the top slightly revealing his abdomen and a Hydro Vision secured to his belt. The metallic shoulder armor on his left shoulder and the flowing scarf across his chest add to his heroic appearance. His red mask is tilted at an angle on his short orange hair, and his blue eyes, contrasting with the Vision, reveal his resolute will and profound inner self. When he enters his Delusion-wielding form, he is fully encased in black armor with purple accents, while his signature scarf turns white and a light purple collar is added around his neck, showcasing his powerful presence and combat capabilities.

Tartaglia’s charisma primarily stems from his love for battle and loyalty. Despite having reached the upper echelons of the Fatui as an “Executive,” he seems to struggle to connect with his colleagues. As the most pure-hearted warrior, he stands out in this group filled with intrigue and scheming.

Skills and Combat Style

Tartaglia

Tartaglia is a highly agile character in Genshin Impact, with his constellation, “Monoceros Caeli,” and many elements related to whales. Childe Whale is the most prominent aspect associated with him, making it clear that he is a Hydro character. He can switch between melee and ranged combat, using a bow as his weapon and possessing powerful Hydro skills.

Tartaglia’s main skills include:

  • Normal Attack Cutting Torrent: Performs up to six consecutive bow shots. A charged attack allows for more precise targeting of enemies, and the elemental power gathered on the arrows deals Hydro damage and applies the “Riptide” effect.
  • Foul Legacy Raging Tide: After using this skill, Tartaglia switches to melee mode. His normal attacks become continuous Hydro slashes, while a charged attack consumes stamina to instantly swing two swords forward, dealing Hydro damage.
  • Havoc Obliteration: In ranged mode, he fires a magic arrow infused with Hydro elements, causing area damage and applying the Riptide effect. In melee mode, he performs wide-area slashes, dealing significant Hydro damage and triggering Riptide – Burst.

Tartaglia’s combat style is highly flexible, allowing him to switch freely between melee and ranged modes based on the combat situation. In ranged mode, he utilizes his bow for precise shots, dealing Hydro damage. When switching to melee mode, he employs his swords for fast and powerful consecutive attacks. His skills and attacks can all apply the Riptide effect, triggering additional area Hydro damage, making him extremely versatile and powerful in combat.

Zhongli in Genshin Impact is a character that integrates control, support, and defense. His skills include normal attacks, Elemental Skill, and Elemental Burst, each with its unique functions and effects.

Zhongli’s normal attack is called “Rain of Stone,” performing up to six consecutive spear strikes. While normal attacks are not his main source of damage, they can still deal a reasonable amount of damage in combat.

His Elemental Skill, “Dominus Lapidis,” has two modes: tap and hold. Tapping generates a stone pillar that deals damage and resonates with other Geo constructs, affecting nearby enemies. Holding the skill forms a Jade Shield, inflicting area Geo damage and reducing nearby enemies’ elemental and physical resistance.

His Elemental Burst, “Planet Befall,” summons a massive meteorite that deals substantial Geo damage to enemies and petrifies them. Petrified enemies cannot move, providing further control over the battlefield.

Zhongli’s combat style is primarily showcased through his powerful control and support capabilities. He can provide shields, lower enemy resistances, control enemy movement, and offer continuous support to the team. Although his damage output may not be the highest, his value in a team is undeniable.

Whether you are drawn to Zhongli’s composure and elegance or captivated by Tartaglia’s fervor and passion, both characters have their unique charm. Which one do you prefer?
