Halong Bay

Ready to explore the stunning limestone islands and emerald waters of Halong Bay? A day cruise is the perfect way to experience this picturesque landscape if you are a budget traveler or have a rush schedule. In just 6 to 8 hours, you may visit up to three destinations depending on the cruise itinerary. Let me guide you through the must-see spots and make the most of your adventure!

Sung Sot Cave – Titop Island – Luon Cave

This must be the most popular Halong Bay tour from Hanoi in a day, as 80% of day cruises are offering it. With this journey, you can go to three destinations, the same as a 2-day cruise but in a hurried way. You can experience it with the Amethyst Day Cruise (from US $58 /pax) or Queen Luxury Cruise (from US $64 /pax).

You will first visit one of the largest and most spectacular caves in Halong Bay – Sung Sot Cave. Located on Bo Hon Island, this two-chambered cave is famous for its massive stalactites and stalagmites. The first chamber greets you with an open space, while the second reveals breathtaking natural rock formations. You may also spot bats, birds, and other small creatures that have made this unique environment their home.

Sung Sot Cave will lure you with the intricate detail of the formations

Our next stop will be an island situated in the heart of Ha Long – Titop Island. The first island’s highlight is the beautiful sandy beach at the base. It boasts clear, calm waters, perfect for swimming or just floating around as you soak in the scenery. If you want to make your experience unique, reach the peak by climbing a series of 400 steep steps. As arriving, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of Ha Long Bay’s emerald waters and limestone karst.

The final destination is Luon Cave – a natural arch carved into a limestone mountain and formed a 60-meter tunnel. Since the cave is accessible only by water, you can paddle through it in a kayak or take a small bamboo boat rowed by local guides. As you move through the tunnel, you will pass under the jagged limestone ceiling, entering a hidden lagoon surrounded by towering cliffs.

Lan Ha Bay – Dark & Bright Cave

The second well-known Halong Bay day cruise route must be Lan Ha Bay – Dark & Bright Cave. Despite being famous, however, it only allows you to visit only 1 place. To have the best experience, you can book your tour at Jade Sails Cruise (from US $115 /pax) or Halong Catamaran Day Cruise (from US $129 /pax)

Our only destination for this trip is the Dark & Bright Cave. Located on the edge of Lan Ha Bay, these twin caves are known for their contrasting atmospheres. After opting for a kayak, you will meet the Dark Cave first. The cave’s entrance is low and dark, and you have to duck down to avoid scraping the rocky ceiling. As you glide through the narrow waterway, you’ll be surrounded by towering limestone walls. While here, take your time to slather in the therapeutic mud bath.

The mysterious contrast between Dark Cave and Bright Cave

As you emerge from the darkness of the cave, you will be greeted by the natural light of Bright Cave. You will find yourself in an idyllic, enclosed lagoon surrounded by towering limestone cliffs covered in lush greenery. The contrast between the shadowy cave and the bright, open lagoon is magical.  For a more leisurely experience, you can take a bamboo boat tour, with local guides rowing you through the cave and lagoon.

Bai Tu Long – Thien Canh Son Cave

If you are an adventure seeker looking for savage natural charm, this route is perfect. As this itinerary is not popular, the services offered by the cruises are limited. However, it also means you can thoroughly enjoy the serenity without suffering from any crowd. You can book the La Muse Day Cruise for your trip with a price from US $58/ pax.

After being picked up at Hanoi, you will embark on a mesmerizing journey to Bai Tu Long Bay. On the way, we will sail toward the enchanting Mat Quy islet and Teapot islet, where nature’s splendors unfold before you.

The symphony of stone formations in Thien Canh Son Cave

Our finish is the hidden gem in Bai Tu Long Bay called Thien Canh Son Cave. It is renowned for its diverse and intricate formations, shaped by water dripping through the limestone over thousands of years. As I venture into the cave, you will be struck by the peaceful atmosphere here. However, the most memorable part must be the view outside. After emerging from the cave, the panoramic sight of Bai Tu Long Bay with its emerald waters and scattered limestone islets will lure you immediately.
