PPF is a thin, transparent polyurethane sheet that provides protection from the small stones that inevitably fly into the car and other natural and man-made debris. Although Dubai has pretty smooth, clean and tidy roads, unfortunately it will never be possible to completely eliminate these cases.
PPF acts as an invisible yet strong barrier that preserves the pristine finish of the car.
Nicks, dings and scratches are no longer a problem.
PPF does not change the color of the car. In fact, it improves the appearance, keeping the car shiny and looking like new even after several years of use.
Read on and we will tell you how to prepare the car for PPF application. We will also tell about the care of this type of coating and shed light on some non-obvious points.
Surface Preparation
The first step is to prepare the surface of the car: mechanical removal of stains, dirt, sand and other elements from the paint.
Cleaning and Degreasing
Next, the surface is degreased using soapy water. After degreasing, a complex drying process is carried out on the elements to which the protective polyurethane film is to be applied.
Trimming and Preparing the Film
Everything is simple here: wrap is cut with a sharp blade along the desired perimeter. As for the preparation part, before removing the protective liner, the film should be coated with soapy water as well – to remove static tension.
Application Techniques
The film is applied starting from the door (the doors must be closed). Because of the soapy water it should start to move freely on the surface, giving the chance to pick proper locations.
The next step is to fix the film, leaving a little space for folds and smoothing it with a burnout. If sand, air bubbles, etc. are found under wrap, it is partially lifted with and cleaned again with the soap solution.
Curing and Drying
The final stage is to smooth and dry the film.
Therefore, it is necessary to heat it with the heating fan, which strengthens its adhesion to the surface of the car. After heating it is necessary to smooth the coverage with a doctor blade to get rid of air bubbles.
It is recommended not to wash the car covered with the film for at least five days in order not to expose the surface to the pressure of washing machines.
PPF is easy to maintain. In fact, to keep the film clean and shiny, a gentle wash and ordinary detergents are enough. It does not require special polishing or waxing. However, it is always worth removing various contaminants from the surface of the film in good time, because although they are resistant to short-term exposure, prolonged one can be harmful.
Nevertheless, the wrap retains its properties for many years. Usually we are talking about 5-7 years.
By the way, at https://car-care.center/services/paint-protection-film/ you can get wraps on your auto. This very car center offers a five-year warranty and uses vinyl, carbon fiber and chrome – the best materials for the job. Folks do everything quickly and without a hitch. They also offer competitive prices.
Although you can everything by yourself, we strongly discourage it: PPF application is a complex process, and only a professional can properly determine where to trim, where to bend, where to apply pressure, and where not to apply it at all.
And yes, don’t forget to warn the wash staff (if you prefer to outsource, of course) that your car is being wrapped. A wrong angle or too much water pressure can catch and tear off the edges.
