Photos are one of the best ways of remembering your big day; something you and your future family can look back on and cherish. If you’re looking for something extra special for your wedding photography, why not spice it up and have some fun with these tips and poses for some truly unique wedding pictures that will be remembered for years to come.

Spelling out words

This is a classic photo for your wedding album, and is heaps of fun in the making. With your bridal party, use either hands or your whole bodies to spell out words like ‘love’, ‘I do’, or the names of the happy couple (depending on name length!).

First dance bird’s eye view

Have your first dance somewhere your wedding photographer can position themselves so as to get an overhead view and great, authentic shot of the two of you arm in arm. Position the crowd first in a compact circle (or heart) around the two of you for a memorable and fantastic looking photo.

Three wise monkeys

If the bride has two bridesmaids, or the groom has two groomsmen, act out this fun and simple shot of the three of you. Everybody knows it…”see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.”

Thanks to The Beach, this has been a great idea for photos for many years. It can be a little tricky to get everyone in the air at the same time, so a few tries may be needed. The more people, the better it looks.

How do we know each other?

This can be done with the bridal party and the groomsmen and is a very sweet idea. Using a mini whiteboard or a piece of card, get each person to write down how they know the bride or groom. For example ‘sister-in-law’, ‘best friend since 3rd grade’. It looks great and it means a lot.

Mirror fun

There is a lot you can do with mirrors. Have the bridesmaids hold up a mirror which reflects the bride in the photo lens; have the groom hold up a mirror which reflects his groomsmen; have the father of the bride showing his daughter her reflection…the options are endless. Choose which one is more you and have fun.

If you’ve got a pet, then your wedding pictures aren’t fully complete without them. Be a little goofy with them and pose for faux-serious photos, like bride’s hand on top of groom’s hand with your pet’s paw on top. Maybe your pet was the ring-bearer, and you can pose as if at the altar with them.

Flower girl and page boy perspective

If you have some young people in your wedding, make sure they are involved in the wedding photography. They have tons of fun and it will make for great pictures. You can try silly ones like the page boy and flower girl seemingly holding the bride and groom in their hands while you stand very far away, or take some fun candid shots of piggy-back rides. Cuteness abounds here.

Everyone around the bride and groom in a heart

While it’s common to have a photo of everybody from above, why not make this a little different? Have the happy couple in the middle and form a heart around them using the guests. It’s surprisingly easy to organize and adds that little extra touch to your big day photography.
