There’s no doubt about it – Threads is here to stay. After a record-breaking launch, Threads is showing that it’s not just a short-lived trend but a serious player among big social media platforms.
Threads, created by Instagram, now has 150 million monthly users and is still growing. To give you an idea, that’s just over a third of X’s 550 million monthly users, even though X has been around for 16 years longer than Threads. In this article, I’ll share tips to help you grow followers on Threads, with advice from the Threads team and users who are successfully doing just that.
As we’ve seen with platforms like Instagram and TikTok, it’s often easier to build a following early on before the space gets too crowded, so it’s a good idea to start investing your efforts now.
Let your followers know
The good news is that when you first create your Threads account, you won’t stay at zero followers for a long time. Your IG followers who are already using Threads will get a notification that you signed up and will be prompted to follow you. T
It’s no surprise that Threads and Instagram work well together, making it easy to share posts between the two. Just tap the paper airplane icon below any Threads post to share it on your Instagram Stories or feed.
Your content will show up with a Threads background, like the example below (just keep in mind that any media you add won’t automatically be shared as a regular feed post).
Find your niche
The great thing about Threads is that even very specific topics are finding their audience there. Once you’ve figured out your niche (or a few), it’s time to start using tags.
Threads tags are like hashtags but with a twist. Unlike other platforms, Threads tags act more like topics rather than just a way to filter searches. This feature is working well, making it easier to connect with others who share your interests, which can help you grow your following.
Spark conversations
Comments are really important on Threads. If you’re a creator or a brand wanting to get more followers, remember that Threads is all about real-time conversations.
It’s key to respond to comments on your posts to keep the discussions alive, and you should also join in on other people’s posts when you have something useful to say. Since Threads is a public conversation app, focusing on replies is just as important as the main posts when it comes to building a community.
Keep your finger on the pulse
Connected to the advice above is the idea that, just like X, Threads is a place where people share and discuss opinions on current events. Most of the content gets shared within just a few hours during the day. So, talking about timely and relevant topics will help you a lot.
Be authentic and helpful
I’ve noticed that many people say Threads feels different from other social media platforms. It really depends on what the Threads algorithm thinks you’ll enjoy, but I’ve found my experience on Threads to be much more positive than on other sites. For me, it’s about connecting with others and being kind and helpful. If you focus on that, Threads can be a friendly and welcoming place.
Post consistently
Posting daily or even a few times a week usually helps you grow followers on LinkedIn and Instagram. However, Threads seems to need you to post more often to see growth. Right now, I’m posting around 10-12 times a day most days, and I’ve noticed that my follower count goes up as I post more.
Don’t be overly promotional
Many brands on Threads quickly realized that posting too much marketing content wasn’t working for them. The brands that are doing well on the platform are focusing more on fun trends rather than just promoting their latest products. Simply trying to sell things doesn’t get much engagement or growth. I’ve noticed this across different areas, not just in music.
